The Human resources (HR) department of ALFIL Millers is tasked with the job function that manages employees, providing an assortment of activities and policies and procedures, which relate to developing, utilizing, maintaining and retaining the appropriate number and skills of employees to accomplish your businesses objectives and goals of the company.
Operations Management
The operations department of ALFIL millers is responsible for smooth running and profitable production. This is done through running tightly to produce what it needs to produce when it needs to produce it and without undue stress, backtracking or delays. Our basic objectives in the department revolve around high-quality effective operations. Furthermore, the operations department plans, coordinates and controls the company resources needed to produce products efficiently, effectively and timely from time to time as required.
ALFIL Millers (U) Ltd has a clear organizational structure which runs from the board of directors, managing director and then management which handles the day to day operations of the company.
Alfil millers (U) Ltd having started it operations officially in June 2015, there has been tremendous growth both in terms of human resource and operations as outlined below.
The company’s human resource has grown from time of inception from a meagre 25 staff to currently over 50 (fifty) permanent staff members and over 200 support/casual workers. This workforce is spread over in various departments such as Operations, production/mill, marketing & sales, procurement/logistics, quality control/assurance, security and accounts/finance departments. These departments are headed by experienced and qualified personnel.

The company’s operations are scheduled for six days in a week but this does not stop us from operating for seven days when there is high demand and other factors from time to time. We operate twenty four (24) hours which means we are working in shifts that is day and night shifts. These shifts are; day shift runs from 08:30am-1730hrs while night shift runs from 1800hrs to 0800hrs.
The human resource department in conjunction with other departments has embarked on staff trainings to improve performance (staff development). This clearly indicates how the company values its employees and in turn targeting steady production output. These trainings include in-house training by some heads of department and external facilitators such as UNBS and fire masters. The company has also tried to improve the lives of the surrounding community through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) and even providing employment to people. The notable projects done by ALFIL millers include construction of the mosque, construction of a well-protected water spring for the community and supporting other community initiatives whenever called upon. For the last three years in existence, ALFIL millers has provided internship to over twenty (20) students from various tertiary institutions in Uganda in different fields of study.
